What is Science Olympiad?

Science Olympiad is a team-based academic competition in which students compete in various STEM-related events. These events are usually either build events, where students construct a device to be tested in-competition, or study events, where students learn about a specific topic and take a test at the competition. Usually, students compete in pairs. Events are independent of one another, but they all contribute to the team’s total score.

FAQs

Q: Do I need to have taken a lot of science classes to Compete in Science Olympiad?

A: No. While taking a lot of Science Classes can help you, it is not a requirement as most events are much more focused and in-depth than a high school class.

Q: Does the team travel to tournaments?

A: Yes! We usually attend at least one Invitational tournament per year (usually at UNC Chapel Hill), and we also travel to NC State University for the State Tournament
